Jesus asked Simon,
First, “Put out a short distance from the shore.”
Then, “Put out into the deep.”
Jesus asks us to grow in our obedience to him. This is possible only if we grow in our trust in him. Jesus’ call to us grows from easy round to difficult round. Our yes to his call should grow from I-oblige “Yes” to I-offer-my-life “Yes.”
Our “Yes” to Jesus last year should not be the same with our “Yes” to him this year. It should grow deeper and more total. Our faith in God now should be different from our faith in Him yesterday, or last month, or last year. It should grow in knowledge and conviction. In taking the “short distance” of following Jesus should make us ready to “put out into the deep.”
