Five years ago, the Diocese of Cubao was born from the mysterious plan of the Father. Five years ago, the late Cardinal Sin gave rise to a new Church in Cubao. From the busy streets of Balintawak to the serene greeneries of U.P., from the history of Retiro to the modernity of Gateway, the Block and Trinoma, we are called to become a Church, a community gathered around Jesus. We are called to proclaim to the world that we are God’s beloved and His love embraces all.
My dear faithful of Cubao, let us rejoice in gratitude for what God has accomplished through us in these past five years. At the same time, let us be ready to move further for much still is to be done. Let us be ready to fight the greed that has caused our brothers and sisters to continue to wallow in poverty and squirm in hunger. Let us be ready to dismantle the often confusing web of lies and dishonesty that little by little seem to become common place and acceptable. Let us be ready to battle the forces of evil that continue to attack the very foundation of the family and of life. Let us be ready to defend the flame of faith against the deceptive charm of the world.
My dear lay people, my dear sisters and brothers, my very dear priests, today we stand before the Lord rejoicing in the wonders of His love, but we celebrate with a chink in our hearts for God has not fully reigned among us. And so, before God’s graciousness and boundless mercy, we humbly acknowledge our unworthiness.
