Jesus was in Capernaum. He entered the synagogue and preached. The gospel tells us, “All were amazed and asked one another, ‘What is this? A new teaching with authority?’”
The words of Jesus had authority. It had power. Several times in the gospels, we hear Jesus say, “Amen, amen, I say to you…” or at other times, “Your fathers have told you… but this is what I tell you…” And Jesus was comfortable in using the power of his words. Where does the authority of Jesus come from? Where does Jesus derive the power of his words?
Minsan hindi natin nagagamit ang kapangyarihan ng ating salita dahil natatakot tayo na baka bumalik sa atin ang mga sinasabi natin. Kapag sinabi nating, “Magsimba ka.” Ang balik sa atin, “Bakit ikaw nagsisimba ka ba?” Kapag sinabi nating, “Mangumunyon ka.” Ang balik sa atin, “Bakit ikaw nangungumunyon ka ba?” Kapag sinabi nating “Magpakabait ka.” Ang balik sa atin, “Bakit ikaw mabait ka ba?” Kaya, madalas hindi na lang tayo nagsasalita.
Pero iba ang salita ng Diyos. Nung likhain ng Diyos ang mundo at sinabi niya “Magkaroon ng liwanag,” nagkaroon nga ng liwanag. Kapag sinabi ng Diyos na “Pinapatawad kita,” pinapatawad nga tayo. Kapag sinabi ng Diyos na “Kasama nyo ako,” kasama nga natin siya. Makapangyarihan ang salita ng Diyos dahil tapat ang Diyos sa kanyang salita.
Faithfulness is the power of our words. Fidelity is the power of our words. With faithfulness, without fidelity, our words will remain powerless.
